They lift and firm as well as improve posture. But correct form is very important with this exercise. You most keep your back straight and sit your butt back correctly in order for it to work.
In this video Female Fitness Model Karen Kennedy is doing a Deadlift workout in the gym. She's doing 10-12 reps bent knee deadlifts followed by 10-12 reps straight leg deadlifts with a barbell. Then she's doing the same thing with dumbbells.

Workout: Do each exercise for about 20 seconds. After then rest about 10 seconds then do the next exercise. After you have done all 5 exercises rest 2minutes then repeat. Repeat as many times as you'd like. Ideally 3-5. Do this 3-5x per week. 
Exercises:
Squats
Swings Weight at Side
Swing Weight in Middle
Leg Lifts
Side Step Lunges
Ice Skaters

Add weight as needed. 

To build a sexy round butt you need to workout your BUTT HARD 2-3x a week for at least 45min or more.
