Scotty James took his second consecutive X Games Snowboard SuperPipe gold at X Games Aspen 2020 and continued an astounding streak of major contest wins that dates back to December 2018: He has now won 10 in a row -- every contest he has competed in across events including X Games (twice!), Burton U.S. Open, Dew Tour and the FIS World Cup circuit. He said he’s a fan of the new format, with ranking based on overall impression instead of the traditional best of 3 scored runs format. “It was an amazing night. The variety was really cool and it definitely tested me,” he said in his gold medal interview. James now owns the second-most gold in the history of the discipline (3), behind Shaun White (8). James also has the second-most medals (5), also behind Shaun (10). James is just the third man to take back-to-back wins in the discipline: Shaun White won 6 in a row between 2008-2013; Danny Davis did it at Aspen 2014 and 2015.  ---- Progression at its finest! One of two riders on the Ski Slopestyle roster representing the USA, X Games Aspen 2020 was Maggie Voisin’s first comp of the season after having left knee surgery in April 2019. Competing in her first comp since having knee surgery in April 2019, Voisin was clean overall and had good variety. The Montana native threw the best trick on the shark fin -- a left rodeo 540 high safety grab. She went for a double cork 1260 on the second jump of her final pass but opened up in the air and aborted the trick. She still landed on her feet. Her rails were solid. Her best move came in run 3: left 450 to switch out. Voisin’s Aspen 2020 Slopestyle bronze is her 5th total X Games medal and 3rd straight X Games Slopestyle podium. Her Aspen 2018 gold is the only Ski Slopestyle title earned by a U.S. woman. Progression at its finest! By earning his second gold of Aspen 2020, rookie skier Colby Stevenson -- who also won Ski Knuckle Huck on Thursday night at X -- became the first rookie in history to win two gold at an X Games. He’s also the first rookie ever to win Ski Slopestyle. Entering XG Aspen 2020, 19 Ski Slopestyle Finals had been contested since 2002, and not a single gold went to a rookie. Twentieth time’s the charm. Stevenson was the most consistent and creative of the comp. His runs were defined, his grabs were perfect and he used both sides of the shark fin. His best trick of the comp was the double cork 1440 Cuban (Run 1, Jump 3) At X Games Aspen 2020, Stevenson was on top all weekend. He also finished first in the Elimination. Only four times has the first-place finisher from the Elim gone on to strike gold, and 18 of 20 X Games Slopestyle contests have had an Elimination. Before Stevenson, the last to do it was Andreas Hatveit in 2008 (Tanner Hall and Charles Gagnier also did it). The 22-year-old is a 2015 graduate of the Winter Sports School in Park City. Entering Aspen 2020, Henrik Harlaut was tied with Tanner Hall for the most Ski medals in X Games history: 11. Harlaut had three chances to break the record in 2020 between Knuckle Huck, Slopestyle and Big Air. He finished second in Knuckle Huck (which only awarded gold), then he missed the Slopestyle Final. That meant Big Air was his last chance for a medal. He earned that medal in style. The Swede took gold in what judges called the best Big Air contest in history. In the process, he earned his 6th Big Air gold and 12th medal overall, surpassing Hall, his idol and close friend. The Big Air victory was also his 7th total X Games gold (he has 2018 Slopestyle gold). That ties him with Hall for the most Ski titles in history. Jamie Anderson, the most decorated woman in X Games history, won her 6th Slopestyle gold medal on Saturday at X Games Aspen 2020, breaking her tie with Shaun White and Mark McMorris for most Slopestyle gold. McMorris competed in Slopestyle later in the day but failed to medal (7th was his worst Slopestyle finish in 12 starts), leaving Anderson to own the most slopestyle gold record outright. Anderson also extended her Slopestyle podium-perfection mark: she now owns 15 medals -- 6 gold, 7 silver, 2 bronze -- from her 15 Slopestyle starts, dating all the way back to Aspen 2006. As analyst Craig McMorris put it during the broadcast: “That’s some Hall of Fame numbers right there.” Here’s what got Anderson into the proverbial "Hall of Fame."
