Flashback to April 20, 2013. X Games has gone global and after winter stops in Aspen and Tignes, we dipped down to Brazil for X Games Foz do Iguaçu 2013. On day three, Nyjah Huston was already doing Nyjah Huston stuff. He won qualifiers, then then beat out Sean Malto and Torey Pudwill to reclaim the gold in the finals. "Going into the first [Street League stop] I always want to win it so bad, and I feel like I've got so much pressure on myself," Huston said. "So winning the first one is always the best thing for me." Final score notwithstanding, Huston did not dominate the battle: Chaz Ortiz led after the flow section of the competition, thanks to a run that included a crooked grind to nollie flip out, putting him ahead of local favorite Luan Oliveira, Pudwill, and Huston. Oliveira owned the next portion of the contest, rocking the yellow and green jersey of Brazil's national soccer team to the delight of his home crowd and winning the control section with the highest scoring single run of the day, thanks to a nollie hardflip noseslide to shove-it out. At 9.7 it was the second highest-scoring trick in Street League history and put him in the overall lead ahead of Ortiz and Huston. On day four, Brazil's Leticia Bufoni stepped up her game on the final run to secure her first gold medal in a buzzer-beater over Leo Baker. "I'm so f----ing happy," said Bufoni right after the win on Sunday, posting a 87.33. "I'm so stoked! I mean… I'm just so stoked." She also credited her move to California with helping her progress toward her first gold. "There are a lot of skateparks [in California]," she said, "and here in Brazil we don't have a lot of skateparks." Swapping out previously landed standards for higher-scoring maneuvers, such as a lip slide down the big rail to close out her winning run, Bufoni edged past Baker, 21, who held the lead for most of the 15-minute final jam session. Baker, who won the bronze medal at X Games in 2006, was the contest's early standout with difficult tricks, such as a nose slide backside 270 out. Baker's 86.33 earned her the silver medal as Bufoni's fellow countrywoman, Jessica Florencio, 21, took home her first X Games medal with the bronze. On day three, Australian rider Kyle Baldock doubled up in Brazil, following up his BMX Park win with a gold medal in BMX Dirt, beating out Brandon Dosch and Ryan Nyquist. Nyquist, the perennial favorite, led after the first of four runs after dropping in from the takeoff lip with a run that included a massive 720 barspin. Baldock overtook him in the second run with a corked 720, tailwhip to barspin, x-up, and tailwhip windshield wiper 360. He held on to his lead through the next two runs before matching his own score of 92.00 in the final run with a double tailwhip backflip, barspin tuck no-hander, x-up and no-handed front flip. Finishing in the silver medal spot behind Baldock was Michigan BMX Dirt rider Brandon Dosch. Dosch, who previously competed in BMX Park competition at past X Games, landed an opposite 720 over the first set, to double tailwhip over the second set, to a corked 720 spun in his normal direction over the last set. Dosch scored 91.00, edging Nyquist into the bronze-medal position. "I can't tell you how I pulled it together," the Gold Coast native said right after the victory, highlighted by tailwhip flairs, corked 900s, and a backflip 360 early in the event. "Practice was pretty hard for me because I don't ride courses like this. But seeing everyone throw down made me want to get out there. And to actually pull it together? Against Pat [Casey]? I have no words. I'm going home the happiest Aussie ever." Pat Casey stalked Baldock for much of the final jam session with stylish barspin flairs and double tailwhip 270 transfers. But during his final push for the top of the podium, Casey lost his line and settled for the silver medal. Dennis Enarson returned to the BMX Park course with his brand of fast and stylish park riding and led the finals for most of the jam session. Near the end of the jam, Enarson hung his back wheel on a bowl air. He declined his final run of the contest, but his score held up to earn him the bronze medal. On day two, Zack Warden took home his first X Games gold medal in the BMX Big Air final. Warden's winning run included a Warden original jump over the gap dubbed the "Iron Lotus," a backflip combined with a bike flip, followed by a triple tailwhip on the MegaRamp quarterpipe. Chad Kagy -- who only got a handful of practice runs because of flight delays that amounted to 52 hours of travel here from his home in State College, Pa. -- finished with the silver medal, thanks to a cliffhanger backflip over the 64-foot gap followed by a tailwhip flair on the quarter pipe. Taking home his first Big Air medal, Morgan Wade won the bronze on his last of four attempts, sending a no-handed backflip over the big gap and spinning his first competitive triple whip on the quarter pipe, 20 feet above the lip. It was the highest triple tailwhip ever landed in BMX history. Another high mark was set by the contest's lone Brazilian. On his way to fifth place, 22-year-old Douglas Leite clocked the highest air in BMX Big Air competition, at 22 feet, 1 inch. And in the end, Brazil's own Bob Burnquist draped yet another Big Air gold medal around his neck for the discipline's first three-peat. "We've had these MegaRamp events here, and I've gotten wins here, but, this was unique," Burnquist said. "I'm really stoked. And to do it here at home, as the first main X Games … I can't ask for anything better." An on-point Elliot Sloan claimed silver. Australia's 38-year-old Jake Brown took home the bronze medal, along the way penning a new page in the history books with skateboarding's first 720 ollie. On day one, Spanish motocross rider Laia Sanz dominated the Women's Enduro X final, thwarting Maria Forsberg's attempt at a three-peat after passing her in one of the first obstacle sections and taking a massive 15-second lead in the first of six laps. Sanz was the top qualifier coming into finals, and lapped most of the field, proving she'll be a podium threat in any future events. "I came here for my first time and I knew that taking a medal would be really difficult," Sanz said after the race. "I didn't hope to win, so I'm really, really happy. It's an incredible thing."
