This is the future of really, really fast things. It’s the sister car to the Rimac Nevera, so based around the same powertrain technology, electrical architecture and carbon core – but is draped in a body and interior of Pininfarina’s design. Sorry, yes, forgot to mention, this is an all-electric hypercar, sorry Hyper-GT. A 1,874bhp and 1,696lb ft monster capable of zero to 60mph in sub 2 seconds, 0-186mph in less than 12 seconds, a top speed of 217mph and if you can find a 180kw DC charger, you can top up from 0-80 per cent in 40 minutes. This, folks of the internet, is the Bizzarrini 5300 GT Corsa Revival, a modern continuation of the car that won its class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1965. Bizzarrini was established in the 1960s by Giotto Bizzarrini, a former Ferrari engineer who’d worked on the 250 GTO and later went on to help develop the V12 used in Lamborghini’s first production car, the 350 GT.  What you see here then is the brand’s first effort in its new form. Hand-built in the UK, the firm has gone to great lengths to make this revival as true to the original as possible, albeit with a few modifications to meet today’s safety standards. Just after the first 5300 GT Corsa Revival was delivered to its very lucky owner, one of the 24 examples rolled up to the Top Gear Test Track for a debut hotlap with The Stig. Despite it arriving with a ‘quieter’ exhaust setup, the noise the 5.3-litre V8 made wasn’t exactly subtle. On an extremely hot day at Dunsfold it managed a 1:28.3, but you’re not buying one of these for lap times, are you? Mind you, the noise has got to be worth the price alone. Nope, the spelling isn’t wrong, Ariel is merely using the word differently, a contraction of ‘High Performance Carbon Reduction’. So 'Hipercar'. Carbon emissions rather than carbon fibre. There’s a lot of the latter about, although underneath the chassis is aluminium and most of the body sections are weighty 3D-printed test panels. It’s 1,759kg as it sits here, but Ariel is confident of dropping that below 1,500kg with full carbon panels and carbon wheels. The jet turbine is a range extender – it exists to charge the 56kWh battery, not drive the wheels. Available as either 2WD or 4WD, with or without the jet turbine, full house versions are likely to be knocking on the door of seven figures. That’s a complete sea change for Ariel, for a car without classic hypercar elegance. But this is new tech, new age, new customer base. It’s something totally different, something wild and outrageous, the essence of Ariel in electric form.
