In last night’s episode of Top Gear, Chris Harris reviewed the all-new Maserati MC20, the first proper Maserati supercar in over 50 years. On a VERY wet lap of our test track The Stig achieved a time of 1:30.4 - impressive considering he was driving a 621hp RWD supercar through standing water. When the track finally dried up, The Stig managed a monumental time of 1:16.6. The Top Gear Test Track has played host to multiple fast, modified Mustangs in the past - and this one is now officially the fastest. It’s the CS850R, Clive Sutton’s upgraded version of its already upgraded Ford Mustang (the CS850GT) and it has been optimised, just like The Stig, for track driving. CS takes the base Ford Mustang and its 5.0-litre V8, and adds a bespoke Whipple supercharger, intercooler and active exhaust. That increases power from the standard 454bhp to an alarming 847bhp and 665lb ft of torque. Get ready for some serious supercharger whine… Back in 2007 the Shelby GT500 set a 1:30.0, and the Roush Mustang upgraded to a 1:28.0. This, folks of the internet, is the Bizzarrini 5300 GT Corsa Revival, a modern continuation of the car that won its class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1965. Bizzarrini was established in the 1960s by Giotto Bizzarrini, a former Ferrari engineer who’d worked on the 250 GTO and later went on to help develop the V12 used in Lamborghini’s first production car, the 350 GT.  What you see here then is the brand’s first effort in its new form. Hand-built in the UK, the firm has gone to great lengths to make this revival as true to the original as possible, albeit with a few modifications to meet today’s safety standards. Just after the first 5300 GT Corsa Revival was delivered to its very lucky owner, one of the 24 examples rolled up to the Top Gear Test Track for a debut hotlap with The Stig. Despite it arriving with a ‘quieter’ exhaust setup, the noise the 5.3-litre V8 made wasn’t exactly subtle. On an extremely hot day at Dunsfold it managed a 1:28.3, but you’re not buying one of these for lap times, are you? Mind you, the noise has got to be worth the price alone.
