Yesterday the provincial parks re-oped here in B.C, giving us the option to hike and snowboard. Today I'm snowboarding with Andreas and our goal is to hike to the snow and get a some snowboarding laps through the trees. We're bringing snow shoes with us making the hike much easier for hiking in the snow. We're also packing enough water and snacks to last the day. We had over twenty five centimeters of new snow fall over night and this is our first light powder snowboarding day at Steven's Pass. TJ and Chris drove down from Whistler to Stevens Pass last night and timed it perfectly for the powder snowboarding day we had today. We were lucky enough today to have some local snowboarders showing the great powder spots in the trees and in open bowls. The tree snowboarding at Stevens Pass was a mix of steep tight trees, wide out and spaced trees and steep tree chutes. The variety of powder snowboarding options and also the incredible people made this one the best days of snowboarding this season! Most of the mountain is closed because of avalanche risk, but we managed to find the best powder in the some unexplored trees. I'm snowboarding today with TJ who's testing out the K2 Party Platter in the powder. Overall this was incredible day of snowboarding where we explored new tree runs we hit for the first time this season. Overnight we got a significant snow fall which has filled in a lot of the tree runs making them accessible for snowboarding. After a long process of getting up the mountain we explored some of the trees and pillows toward the peak to peak gondola. Here we found some of the best powder lines through the trees and even a few pillows to drop off of. Today I was riding my Lib Tech Orca snowboard which helped me float over some of the deeper snow. It's been snowing here the last few days which has resulted in a few inches of snow in the trees and gullies though out the resort. I'm snowboarding today with my friends Garrett and David. The highlight of snowboarding today has been the the deep gullies that wind between runs. Whenever you're snowboarding in the trees always ride with friends and take all the necessary safety precautions. Snowboarding this kind of terrain will challenge your riding and make you plan your line, steer aggressively and use your knees to absorb bumps.
