We arrived at Whistler mountain at 5:30 AM to be the first snowboarders on the mountain. The first lap we snowboarded through the mountain bike trials to an advanced deep powder tree run. Then headed over to the peak of the mountain where I found the best powder snowboarding lap down from the peak. We spent the last lap riding through an incredible out of bounds tree run called Khybers Pass. My advice for being first to a powder spot is to plan ahead where you want to ride, come prepared with the right gear and of course get to the mountain early. The Blackcomb Glacier hasn't been open for a few days and the snow has remained untouched since the last snow fall. Getting up there first gave me the chance to pick my line and have untouched snow the entire snowboarding run down. I'm snowboarding with my friends Andreas and Brent who are leading the way through some technical trees and hard to find areas. Today is the first day some of the high alpine section of the mountain are opening including one of my favorite spots called Spanky's ladder. This area on a powder day is incredible for doing some steep and high speed powder turn on you snowboard. The snow has unlocked some areas near Crystal chair which are some of the best trees on for snowboarding. This is my first day back snowboarding after a two week quarantine. I've been snowboarding in Whistler for over fifteen years and this it's good to be back. The snow in Whistler is good with over 20cm's today, but it's still early season conditions with low coverage in the trees.
