We're snowboarding today in the Burton Stash park in Avoriaz France, which has all natural wooden features! The 50 50 is a great beginner snowboarding trick and opens the door to many other tricks on boxes and rails. Like all snowboarding tricks its best to first practice outside of the park on the slopes. The first tip for the 50 50 is to approach the feature with a few set up turns. This will get you centered with the feature and dial in your speed. Next get onto the box with your weight centered over your snowboard. This will allow you to slide smoothly to the end of the box. There is a nice variety of wooden wallrides, quarter pipes, and A-frames that are perfect for practicing stall tricks, so in this video we are going to go over a few tips to help you learn stalls on your snowboard. The first thing you'll want to figure out is the proper speed to approach the feature with to make sure that you reach the top and can stall under your back foot; this should also be about the same speed you would need for an axle stall if that is the trick you would like to do. You'll want to give a little pop as you transition off of the snow and onto the wallride to send you smoothly up onto the coping of the feature, and then focus on grabbing the coping right under your back foot. Keep your body in line over your back foot and balance the trick out, then give another nice pop to send you off of the feature and back down into the landing. This will make the trick feel much smoother and, in my opinion, look a little cleaner than just sliding back down into the feature. You will want to make sure you are comfortable hitting medium to large sized jumps, as well as spinning frontside 360's and doing both frontside and backside shifty's in the same jump. Once you're comfortable with these skills you will be able to focus completely on poking out your shifty's and nothing else while you are in the air. To do the shifty-shifty you'll want to poke a frontside shifty first, then your backside shifty, spot your landing, and then finish your rotation to ride away straight down the landing. Once you try this trick you will find that the spin comes around quite naturally, and you really can just focus on poking out the shifty-shifty. This was the first day that they had their medium jump line open since we arrived, and the second jump had a perfect trajectory to practice new tricks. I spent the morning figuring out the speed and approach to the jump while getting comfortable with some front 3's and then worked my way up to 540's before going for the 720. Outside of being very comfortable with the speed on the jump and figuring out a solid setup carve, I was really focusing on keeping my head looking over my leading shoulder to keep a continuous rotation as well doing my best to hold a grab as long as I could during the spin. Each of us attempted a different double snowboard grab. I went for the Rocket Air grab where you grab both hands to the nose of your snowboard. This is a fun butter trick you can do anywhere on the mountain and I'll break it down into five parts. This way you can work on each part separately and then bring them together to get this new butter snowboard trick. The first part of this butter trick is the ollie. This sets up the trick and gets you balanced. The second part is the backside 180. When working on the backside 180 it's important to have a level takeoff and landing. The third part of this snowboard butter trick is the switch nose press. The best place to learn new presses is on easier and more mellow runs. The fourth part is the switch nollie. The switch nollie is what you'll use to help finish the butter trick. The final part of the butter trick is a cab 180. Cab is a skateboard term that means switch frontside. Once you have all these snowboard tricks mastered you can bring them together to for the butter trick. I found that this snowboard butter trick was a lot easier and I stayed more balanced by keeping my knees bent. For more snowboard trick tips check out the snowboard trick playlist. In this snowboard trick tutorial I head up to Copper Mountain, Colorado to meet my friend Andy (@andweb) who is a snowboard coach for Woodward Copper. Today our goal is for me to learn how to do a tamedog front flip, and we will take you every step of the way through my learning process. We started off on gym mats and progressed to trampolines and roller-boards before taking this new trick to snow. I found tamedog front flips to be fairly easy to initiate but difficult to land clean on my snowboard; I naturally wanted to turn my shoulders which effected my rotation and caused me to land crooked. Thankfully after all the practice at Woodward, a few tries, and the great tips from Andy, I was able to put one to my feet by the end of the day.
