This is our first attempt hiking to the top of a mountain here in the Whistler area called Soo Tip mountain. We're carrying our snowboards to the top to hopefully find some great lines down. I'm snowboarding today with my friend Andreas and together this is our third spring hike. This is our first attempt at summiting a mountain this spring. I'm hiking up a mountain called Sproatt with Andreas here in Whistler, B.C, Canada. The goal is to reach the alpine where there is still a lot of snow for snowboarding. We've brought a few things to make this hike easier including poles, a better backpack for hiking and an apps to help us stay on the trail. Yesterday the provincial parks re-oped here in B.C, giving us the option to hike and snowboard. Today I'm snowboarding with Andreas and our goal is to hike to the snow and get a some snowboarding laps through the trees. We're bringing snow shoes with us making the hike much easier for hiking in the snow. We're also packing enough water and snacks to last the day. This is the first time snowboarding for both of us in months, so we'll be taking it easy. Today is TJ's first day back in Whistler and he's cheching out the Blackcomb terrain park for the first time in a few weeks. The terrain park does have a few good jumps and jib features but is also very icy and chaotic for snowboarding. We managed to get a few snowboard tricks down in the park, but the best area for tricks was actually outside the park on side hits. We change up the day by hiking into the mountain to find some powder snow. After a forty five minute hike we arrive at a secret powder zone that has the best powder yet this year. The chair to the top of Whistler is still closed, but the hike to the top is open! We've had enough snow here in Whistler that snowboarding through the alpine should be good! I'm doing the hike with Chris and together we're going to make the hike and ride down watching out for each other to stay safe. There are some obstacles to avoid while snowboarding like large chunks of avalanche debris set off by ski patrol. I also share with you guys all the snowboard gear I brought up the mountain.
