Woolley is part of a new generation of skateboarders who can destroy vert bowls and street spots with a unique bag of tricks. Raised on a steady diet of surfing and concrete skateparks, he won his first competitions as a young teenager. Representing Australia in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Woolley had a viral moment by accidentally taking out a cameraman on live TV. After being voted ‘New Gen of the Year’ in the Slam Magazine Skater of the Year Awards, he had his breakout season in 2022: After taking silver in his debut at X Games Chiba in Spring, he proceeded to win the bowl contest at legendary CPH Open in Copenhagen, then caused a major upset by taking gold at X Games 2022. In conversation with The Dingo and Danny, the multiple X Games medalist and Olympic athlete shares his inspiring career from small town beginnings to stadium events. Raised in a small town in British Columbia, Matt Berger asked for his first skateboard at age 5. Supported by his father, who also captured his son’s ahead-of-his-age tricks on camera, the prodigy earned his first flow sponsorship at age 10. Endorsed by skateboard icon Rodney Mullen, he moved on to full-blown sponsored status at eleven – and proceeded to make his mark as one of the most technical (and consistent) riders on the circuit. Berger won Damn Am Canada in 2009 and made history in 2014 as the first amateur to compete with big-ticket pros on the Street League Skateboarding (SLS) series. Pro since 2015, he’s earned two X Games medals, dropped legendary video parts, and represented Canada in the Tokyo Olympics. And no, his last name is not pronounced ‘burger’! From the moment her career took off, Rayssa Leal continues to crush records and complete huge milestones. In 2019, she made history as the youngest competitor to win an SLS tour stop at age 11 and took second place at the SLS World Championship in Brazil that year. Today, she commands an Instagram following of 6.3 million and pushes the limits of technical street skateboarding. At the Tokyo Olympics, the young skateboard prodigy took home the silver medal in Women’s Street Skateboarding for Brazil. Leal earned her first X Games gold medal in early 2022 and is currently a top contender to win the SLS Super Crown World Championship in Brazil this fall. This competition format, combined with the new blood featured in this year’s roster, has resulted in the best Red Bull Sōlus to date. In my first video with the Summerboard I was learning the basics and it took me a few hours to get comfortable on the board, just like the first day of snowboarding. After that day I have stuck with practicing and each time out on the Summerboard I have picked up some new skills. I think the best thing about this electric skateboard is that it does give you so much room to progress and build up skills for doing tricks. The Summerboard has an extra set of electric wheels under the center of the deck that allowing it to slide and spin like a snowboard. This is my first day on the Summerboard and attempting to get the skills down to ride in comfortably. After a few hours I was able to ride in control and attempt a few sliding turns.
