It’s pretty crazy how fast things are changing day to day here in Utah. One week ago my family and I built a mini-Gymkhana GRiD practice course inside my Hoonigan Racing workshop (https://youtu.be/JolYdW9KkZk), and this week my daughter Lia and I are at an actual race track with an entire paddock to ourselves. With my ’78 Ford Escort Mk2 RS in tow, and an eager 13-year-old showing more interest in the finer art of HOONING, I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the limited re-opening of UMC (Utah Motorsports Campus) for a day of GYM-Class, teaching Lia proper technique for doing donuts! We're back with another installment of Ken Block's Raw Onboard Footage, this time from Southern Ohio Forest Rally during SS13 - "Diagon Alley". Early in the race, Ken and co-driver Alex Gelsomino took the lead putting down the quickest time on the first stage. They continued their pace into the second stage but luck would soon run out. The boys unfortunately went wide on the exit of a turn and hit a stump, breaking the right rear suspension. The team was able to fix the car overnight and get the boys back on the road for the second day of stages, albeit with a 17-minute penalty, setting them back to 64th position. Ken and Alex used this as an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new Subaru WRX STI and test some different setups in the car - which judging by the onboard footage, paid off. Ken Block returns to The Rally in the 100 Acre Wood in an attempt to capture his 8th win at the event. In this race we see Ken piloting a Skoda Fabia R5+, set up for the ARA's 04WD class. With very little seat time in this unfamiliar chassis, he faces stiff competition by the likes of Travis Pastrana piloting his factory backed Subaru WRX STI and Barry McKenna in a Ford Fiesta WRC. With free rein to race in 2021 with any manufacturer of his choosing, Ken Block and Hoonigan Racing Division are announcing a wild year in some of the world’s finest gravel slingers: from an open class Subaru STi, to a safari-spec Porsche 911, to Block’s first ever race in a Trophy Truck… and that’s just the beginning. Block is also announcing more manufacturer partnerships soon. “This is going to be a wild year! I’m stoked to be back in a Subaru racing rally in America,” said Block. “And now that I’m not exclusively tied to just one manufacturer, I can go do things like race a Porsche, built by Tuthill Porsche, in Africa and take on the infamous Baja 1000 in a Trophy Truck - both of which I’ll be doing for the first time ever!” Later in the year is when things get really interesting for Block. In early November, Block is set to pilot a Tuthill Porsche built air-cooled Porsche 911 for the East African Safari Classic Rally. Spanning 10 days and nearly 5000 km on Kenya’s tough gravel roads, it’s often regarded as the world's greatest classic rally. The day after the East African rally is scheduled to end, Block will head straight to Baja, Mexico to start the pre-run of the Baja 1000, then buckle into a Trophy Truck for his first ever attempt at the legendary off-road race. He seeks to answer the question: “Can a rally driver translate his skills directly to the world of off-road truck racing?” For the event, he’s teaming up with 16-year-old Jax Redline, an up and coming off-road racer who just took 5th overall at last weekend’s San Felipe 250. “Jax is one of the young and very talented drivers in the sport and I am stoked to be partnered with him in this big effort to go take on one of the biggest off-road races in the world!” said Block. My 15-year-old daughter Lia got her drag racing license before she could even apply for her learner’s permit. Even though she’s cleared to launch the 1,400hp Hoonicorn she can’t drive herself to school! But that's about to change cuz in October Lia will turn 16 and get her driver’s license — so she’s gonna need a STREET-LEGAL daily! She used her earnings from Hoonicorn vs the World to buy this ‘80s Audi Ur-Quattro, but it needs a lot of wrenching before it’ll run again. This November 1st marks ten years since the official creation of Hoonigan. To celebrate a decade of tire slaying and automotive mayhem, Ken Block is reviving some of the livery art from pivotal moments in his history with the brand. Looking back through his years of racing and Gymkhana, Block selected three of his favorite liveries from his race cars, to create a limited line of products for Hoonigan, DC Shoes, 100%, Wolfgang Man & Beast. These “Legacy Liveries” include the “Snow Camo” from his 2005 Subaru rally car, the “Drips” from Gymkhana THREE, and the Hoonicorn V1 livery graphic that was featured in Gymkhana SEVEN. The flagship product of this collection is a limited edition set of three posters, featuring very iconic images of these cars in their respective liveries. Each poster is signed by Block and only 43 sets will be available for purchase. DC will be producing a re-release of their Versatile shoe in three colorways to support the historic KB liveries. 100% is set to release sunglasses, goggles, and gloves in the graphics, and Wolfgang Man & Beast has a line of leashes and collars in the Legacy Livery graphics. “Throughout my career, I’ve had some liveries that I am really proud of, which I feel have set a high bar for the world of motorsports.“ says Block. “I’ve always incorporated a lot of skateboard and streetwear influence into the graphics we designed for my Gymkhana and race cars. Much of that comes from the years of design and marketing experience I had growing the DC Shoes brand. With the ‘22 American Rally Association season over, I decided to take my Hyundai i20 WRC race car for one last ride—in LA traffic!! It’s wild to think that a competition-spec race car like this can also be street legal, but that’s part of what makes rally racing so special. I met up with Trouble Andrew at his studio and gave him a ride, drove through Hollywood, then eventually met up with good friends Rob Dyrdek and Damon Way for a cruise up to Malibu to get dinner before saying goodbye and sending the race car back to Europe.
