With the epic £500k Autobahn road trip successfully navigated (part 1: https://youtu.be/ODvTqQjDZWU), its now time to see what these Speed Week contenders are like on track. And where better than Autodrom Most? A circuit located in the western end of the Czech Republic only about 30 miles from the German border, where the love of racing runs deep. The corners are numbered, not named. Less evocative. It’s harder to express fear and trepidation when reverentially whispering about turns 4 and 19, rather than some mythically titled bend such as Pouhon or Paddock Hill. But ultra fast, ‘are they really flat?’ 4 and 19 are a genuine test of mettle and metal. What would happen if Porsche wedged the 493bhp, high-revving, 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six from the 911 GT3 into the Cayman? Well… this. With Porsche’s pure electric future beckoning and naturally aspirated petrol engines on the way out, its hardcore GT department thought it would have some fun, producing the most extrovert RS model ever. Of course, there’s more downforce, stiffer suspension and weight has been stripped out but it’s the character of this car that separates it from the 911 GT3. The GT3 harnesses all the tech available to be the fastest and most precise thing around a track, the GT4 RS is all about noise and emotion and having fun, says Andreas Preuninger, the man behind every GT model. So we caught up with him in Germany to give us a full tour of the car. Porsche has graced us with two incredible RS cars in 2022, and we’re here to find out which is best. The new GT3 RS isn’t just inspired by motorsport, it’s a full-blown race car. The engine is a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six revving to 9,000rpm and producing 518bhp. It’s got 860kg of downforce at 177mph and 406kg at 124mph, well over double those of the 991.2 GT3 RS it succeeds. But worry not, this is still not a slow car - 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 184mph. However, if you’ve ever wondered what would happen if Porsche stuffed the stupendous GT3 engine into the back of its mid-engine baby-brother, the Cayman… the GT4 RS is your answer. It’s the most hardcore, powerful and track-hungry Cayman Porsche has ever made. 493bhp, 332lb ft of torque and 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds.
