11-6-2019 Keystone, Colorado Starting the 2019/20 season off with a BANG! I met two new metal humans, the guitarist and bassist from Cephalic Carnage, Brian and Nick. Nick also plays bass for a little band called Job for a Cowboy! Keystone was having a controlled burn during my first day there. The whole right side of the mountain smelled like a camp fire, and a couple of the runs were covered in smoke! The second day was spent with my boy Marshall. We got some fun laps in! Checking out the Nitro Beast snowboard in the park and around the mountain at Keystone, Colorado. The Beast lives up to its name, and is an aggressive all-mountain/freestyle snowboard that will come through for even the hardest charging riders. Featuring a full positive camber profile and stiff flex, this snowboard will stand up to the largest features in the park as well as hold it's own as you explore the rest of the mountain. The biggest highlights I found on the Beast is the amount of stability that it offers, really allowing you to trust that the board will be there for you in sketchy situations, as well as pop. This is a lot of snowboard to handle with lots of energy and feedback, and I would recommend it for more advanced riders that want something solid to rip around on. The Basic is a true twin, all-mountain freestyle snowboard that lands on the playful side of the spectrum when it comes to flex. You will be able to get some good flex for butter and rail tricks with this snowboard, while still having decent pop and stability thanks to its camrock camber profile. It also runs Underbite Tech from YES which helps to increase edge hold on firm snow and ice. Overall I think that the Basic would be a really fun freestyle specific snowboard, as well as a fun board outside of the park for casual riding. If you aren't riding any freestyle there may be better options for you out there. It was surprisingly good in the trees, with lots of fresh light snow to find despite not being very deep. The TRS was a lot of fun in these condition and is a capable all-mountain snowboard. The biggest highlights of the TRS for me are how versatile it is and how well that magne-traction grips. I was able to hold a strong edge on icy parts of the groomers and had full control even when breaking through the powder to the crusty icy snow underneath. The TRS also has some good stability to offer once you reach the end of its rocker dominant profile, I would rate the flex around a 6/10. The Orbit is more of a freeride/carving oriented snowboard and was a lot of fun on groomers as well as the banked transitions we found in the terrain park. A wide shape and large sidecut radius make this snowboard a lot of fun for carving as well, allowing you to lay the board over at higher speeds. United Shapes also put an extra pair of setback inserts to give you more of a fish style feel on powder days. Overall the Orbit is a great snowboard if you want something stable at high speeds that will also float well on soft days. Nobaday sent me this snowboard to keep so I have ridden it around 4 or 5 days before filming this video to really feel it out and get used to it (also I am waiting on my replacement Bataleon). The Ambition is an aggressive snowboard but is fun once you get used to it and is very functional for what it is made for. I would classify this as a jump leaning freestyle snowboard, although it is still fun for rails as long as you aren't trying to press out technical tricks. The two biggest strengths on this snowboard are its stability and pop which stem from its true regular camber profile. You will find 1 full centimeter of camber on this guy. All in all the Ambition is a very precise, powerful, and poppy snowboard.
