Typically when someone hits the wall around 180mph, that signals the end of their racing for that weekend. However when you have this level of determination and happen to have made your personal best pass ever, it can be a very different story. We have featured this car before which made it hard for us to witness it go into the wall early on at TX2K21, but we were happy to see the week turn around some for the owner. The second day of TX2K doubled down on excitement as some of the CRAZIEST passes in TX2K history were made! Roll racing eliminations this year were some of the scariest passes we’ve ever seen, and drag racing classes faced some serious traction problems with the colder than usual weather here in Baytown, TX. No Prep racing brings about some of the wildest and unique moments we get to see out at the track all year long. Winter Meltdown held true to our expectations as racers battled every variation of difficulty down the lanes of Houston Raceway Park! From Jason Cantu’s half track wheelie to Flaco trying to tame his pickup, “TOXIC” and make a straight pass down the lane, there was no shortage of excitement to be had. This is a truck we haven’t seen in a LONG time! As soon as we laid eyes on it in the pits of Winter Meltdown at Houston Raceway Park, we walked straight over to check it out. The truck still has a massive single turbo setup but with more modern components than when we last saw. Joel Grannas is the FIRST IN THE 6'S H-Pattern Stick Shift! TX2K organizers and sponsors created a $3,500 bounty to any MKiV IRS Toyota Supra to shatter this record at their event, providing some SERIOUS incentive for many racers. Supra’s with independent rear suspension setups have been battling the basement 7’s for a long time leading into 2020. This is why the bounty was created, and this is what made these records so incredibly nerve-racking for us as media and invested spectators alike! The REAL kicker here is that while most of the cars trying to dip down into the 6’s were the tried and true automatic setups, Joel Grannas is the radical outlier who is chasing the same goal but with an H-pattern 6 speed car. In the same car with similar power, Joel is smashing gears like a maniac and driving the HELL out of this car as he tries to tame the beast with every pass he makes. Joel may be one of the only people we know who has a rolodex man-cards because every single pass he makes with this car earns him a new one. Joel may not have been the first into the 6’s for an IRS car, but he does hold the record for the QUICKEST H-Pattern car in the world, previously held by the RED DEMON of Boostin Performance. Proving the car’s street-cred by towing a Jet-Ski or completing the world’s most difficult street car challenge (Hot Rod Drag Week) with a 7 second average, Geo’s Supra has earned its reputation as an icon in not only the Supra community, but in the street car world. Competing in the 2JZ class of TX2K19 for the event’s 20th anniversary, Geo came prepared to carry the cars reputation while hoping to raise the bar even more. Not only did Geo get to race a Titan of the Supra community, but it shaped up to be literally the MOST EPIC race in all of Supra history! Of course these successes didn’t come without some challenges through the weekend, Geo had to battle a bad wheelie issue early on that prevented him from getting the feel and data from the track that only a full pass could give him. We’ve crossed the halfway point of the 20th anniversary of TX2K, but there is still so much ahead of us! Day 3 was filled with Crazy passes, Personal BEST’s, and the usage of more VHT than we’ll see again all year (that is until we see Jason Miller again for World Cup Finals in November)! Many racers ended up shattering their hopes and dreams all over the track as they tried to reel in faster and faster times while taking advantage of the -DA here at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Teaxs. Trying to find the right balance between Jason Miller’s famous track prep and the crazy cool temps may have lead to a lot of broken parts, but it made from some BADASS passes.
