Just one of our offshore adventures back in January this year when the swell was up and the current was raging. It was too hard to micro jig or bottom fish so we went looking for surface dwellers or pelagics like the Mahi Mahi. Solo mission out the seaway off the Gold Coast in search of Mulloway or otherwise known as a Jewie, Jewfish. The Mackerel were still around too so I was also trolling a hard body for one of them as well. After a bit of searching and persistence I finally found what I was looking for. This is a milestone fish for me, especially catching it all by myself. I love solo missions and spending time on the water. Copeton Dam is located around about 6 hours drive south west from my place on the Gold Coast. It's amazing the temperature difference between home and there. It was still summer when we visited the dam and yet it was cold enough to have to wear our warm coats in the mornings. We were targeting Murray Cod and Yellow Belly as a bi-catch, too. Unfortunately, nothing was biting the lures we were throwing. We are still very new to chasing Murray cod and so we have not yet got the hang of it, just like most of our fishing expeditions. Copeton is such a beautiful dam to explore especially now that they have had a tiny bit of rain to green everything up a little. Last time I was there in August 2019 the dam was at 8% during the thick of the drought. The dam level was at 14% during this video, shot in mid March 2020. I hope you still enjoyed this video even though there was no fish caught. I wanted to share a fun day on the water with you all. I just happened to hook something amazing as well. This is the biggest Pearl Perch I've ever caught at 64 cm. I was happy to release this magnificent fish back in to the ocean so it could continue breeding. Part 2 - This was the last day of our Ocean Blue Fishing Charter in Vanuatu staying at Trees and Fishes Resort in Port Havannah. The resort has kayaks and fishing gear for the guests to use while they stay with them and seem as our gear was already packed away in the rod tube we decided to have a little fun before we had to head home.
