One of the big limitations we've faced since building our Triple 65inch 4K Sim Rig was the ability to record high quality helmet cam footage. We took the plunge this week and purchased a GoPro HERO 10 to experiment with its high frame rate capabilities at high resolution, and we were so blown away by the results we decided to pretty much tear everything apart and start over. During yesterday's F1 broadcast we saw exciting new visor cam footage, and had the opportunity to ride on board with Fernando Alonso around Spa. This was the first time I've seen such footage during a broadcast, and Paul di Resta's commentary offered valuable insight as to how it compared with what the driver actually sees. We've used similar footage before to help get our videos as realistic as possible, but this new footage gave us valuable insight to help improve the rig. Ever since getting heavily involved in sim racing almost 3 years ago, I constantly get asked the question "Why not just race a real car?". For me there are so many reasons but the biggest is this.... I suffer from a severe anxiety disorder which unfortunately zaps the thrill out of a lot of real life experiences for me. One of those being racing. For me, the fear is stronger than the thrill and I end up being so anxious I can't enjoy the experience. So instead I decided to use the resources I have available to build what I think is one of the most immersive sim racing rigs in the world, and build it in a way that allows me to capture the experience and allow you to see what I see.
