He Traded His JET BOAT for THIS? What do you do when you’re looking for a new engine for your car and you’re not really into your Jet Boat at the moment? Trade it with a buddy for his old engine, of course. That is, if you buddy is Tom Bailey and he’s got his old 540 c.i. Steve Morris built racing engine laying around with no use for i! Not only does this 8 second “low boost” monster have a legendary power plant, it also has a jaw dropping paint job that commands your eyes to it on every pass. Apparently it’s a layer of “Apple Red” over a “Satin Black” that leads to this DEEP pearly paint that looks like it’s soaking wet! Taking a British car he’s owned for over 40 YEARS, and stuffing it to the brim with American muscle has made Ed Olson’s name widely known in the Hot Rod community! Ed’s stretched wheelbase Triumph TR6 has some pro-stock attributes with British styling, which leave him with a very well mannered monster machine. Powered by a family heirloom Pontiac engine (his parents drove the engine home when it was new back in the 70’s), this little sportster is packed with as much nostalgia as it has horsepower! With a turbo this big pushing a consistent 20+psi, this engine has held together while putting down high 8 second passes for over 8 YEARS! Twin Turbo Plymouth VIP from FINLAND! These guys are some of the craziest and most dedicated racers we saw at Hot Rod Magazines "Drag Week”! These guys shredded Turbo’s, Cylinder Head’s, and MULTIPLE Transmissions! Dealing with some of the most inconvenient and stressful obstacles not once, but multiple times each…they definitely took the cake when it came to hard work and dedication! Janne Uskali shipped over his 1967 Plymouth VIP from Finland may not have been the most financially rewarding situation, but with all the supports from fans and co-racers alike, they finished out the grueling week of torture with smiles and some incredible memories! Back in Finland, this was the first registered street car to pull off a 7 second 1/4 mile! Unfortunately the team was unable to finish Drag Week, but they stuck around and made exhibition passes on the last day and partied with racers and fans alike, ending the week on a positive note! Never Judge a Wagon by its RUST, This Wagon is SICK! Richie Crampton knew EXACTLY what he wanted when he set his sights on a build for Hot Rod’s Drag Week! Taking 8 months of spare time and some help from close friends, Richie took this old Chevrolet wagon and made it a truly unique build! Taking everything 10 steps too far, this GORGEOUS patina’d nova has more chassis and tire than the car may ever need! Clicking off low 8 second passes left and right, this car was making 8’s look easy! Unfortunately, Richie is also a Pro NHRA Driver and had to depart from Drag Week early in order to compete in a pro race by the end of the week.
