2-8-2020 Copper Mountain, Colorado I couldn't have asked for a better birthday this year! I am grateful to have been born in the middle of the winter. (thanks mom n dad) Spending the day on my board is always stellar, but getting close to 3 feet of fresh, fluffy, snow was a blessing. Mike and I got 2 NICE runs down that upper section of the mountain and the opening (and closing clip) was an absolute dream!! Then we mobbed thru the woods all day. SO MUCH FUN! To add to it all, the Dew Tour took place at Copper on this particular weekend. When we finishing surfing pow, there was a rail jam at the bottom that we have the pleasure of watching. Followed by a full moon DJ set and FIREWORKS!! Smiles all day and night. Stoked that a handful of friends spent the day with me as well! At most resorts the longest rail you can find is around 30ft, and that extra 10ft makes a noticeable difference. Going for tricks on longer features is a good way to show yourself that you have that particular trick on lock, it is much harder to balance a trick to the end of such a long feature. It can also be a bit intimidating to step up to larger features, so in this video I thought I would share some of the things I was thinking about while trying tricks on the 40ft down rail. I hope this helps you guys as you begin to step up to larger feature at your home mountain. The Capita DOA is a well rounded, freestyle friendly snowboard that works well as a solid daily driver. It comes in at a great price point for what it delivers, and features some higher end tech inside like kevlar and carbon fiber stringers. For me the highlights on the DOA are how much pop it has to offer, stemming from that positive camber profile, mid flex, and carbon stringers, as well as how fast the base is. I have been really impressed with the bases on Capita's 18/19 lineup. All in all the DOA is a solid all around snowboard that is versatile and capable regardless of where you end up on the mountain. To start off the day we spent some time in the Woodward Copper Barn and practiced several backflips on trampolines and into foam pits. Some of the biggest takeaways for me were to get a straight up pop and throw your head and shoulders straight back, spot your landing, and use your legs to control the speed of your rotation to bring your feet to the snow. At the end of the day it is a full commitment trick and you have to trust yourself and the prep you've done to be successful. No matter how many flips you've done into water or on tramps the first time on snow will be a little different, but I hope that this video helps you to stomp your first backflip!
