Electrification is clearly the future for small city runarounds. However, some manufacturers are looking to the past for design cues - in a good way... The Honda e has dinky dimensions and doe eyes, reminiscent of its 80s ancestor, the Honda City. Underneath its retro exterior, it has a 35.5kWh battery and an electric motor that produces 152bhp. The Fiat 500 Electric looks like... well, a Fiat 500 - a tried and tested shape which has barely changed since the 50s. It doesn't have as much power as its Japanese rival (116bhp) but it does come in almost 200kgs lighter. These arent The Stig's standard track weapons of choice, but they should make for an interesting race. Naturally aspirated or turbocharged is a question that often divides the motoring world, so in this instalment of Stig’s Garage, we have two German sports cars that both make 395bhp to battle it out on the Top Gear test track. The 718 Cayman GTS has a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six and a 6-speed manual gearbox. Its contender, the TT RS, has a 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder under the bonnet. Becky reckons the Cayman is more of a driver's car but also knows the Audi has all the mechanical grip and power to take on the Porsche. This is the Alpine A110S and it's all the Ss: sharper, stiffer, swifter and stoppier. The Stig isn’t the biggest fan of the standard A110. Too soft and squidgy said the sad slope of his shoulders when, back in 2018, it put in a 1:22.9 lap. Which made it faster than a Toyota Supra, and matched a Ferrari F430. So how much faster is the little Alpine with stiffer suspension, uprated brakes, wider, stickier tyres, a wing and an extra 40bhp? Answer: 0.6 seconds. On a very HOT day, the A110S put in a 1:22.3. Not a massive improvement, but it remains a giant slayer (as quick as a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale or Audi R8 V10 Spyder) not to mention any race team would kill for a 0.6sec improvement...
