We found technical big mountain lines in Corbet's Couloir, smooth powder, rock drops, and tree lines while exploring throughout the day. The Mercury features a directional twin shape, slight setback, camrock camber profile, and medium stiff flex; this offers solid performance in a wide variety of conditions with minimal compromise. The versatility of this snowboard stood out to me, as well as its very fast base, and significant amounts of stability. While this isn't a powder specific snowboard it will be manageable in powder if you set the stance back, and will also work well in the terrain park although I would say it leans towards the jump side of the spectrum when it comes to freestyle riding. Overall I was very impressed with the performance of the Mercury and would recommend it to more advanced riders interested in this style of snowboard. They are all twinnish style snowboards with roughly a medium flex for versatility and stability without being too aggressive. I think that the Warpig and Custom are going to offer the best powder performance while the DOA and Westmark are going to be the most fun in the terrain park out of this group, however I wouldn't hesitate to ride any type of terrain on any of these snowboards. I believe that a good do-it-all snowboard is a board that feels secure and stable regardless of the terrain, and is going to offer that performance without limiting you and while putting a smile on your face. In this video you'll find 5 snowboards that offer better powder performance than your typical freestyle snowboard, but are still a lot of fun for runs through the park. The two most common features in these boards that help with float are a directional shape (longer nose than tail outside the contact points), as well a slight taper (skinnier tail than nose). Some of these boards are more directional than others, but I think all of them make a good compromise when it comes to offering float while still being fun on natural features and in the park. You are always going to be making a compromise when trying to find one snowboard to meet both of these requirements, but I think these 5 will start you down the right path if that is what you are looking for. The Capita DOA is a well rounded, freestyle friendly snowboard that works well as a solid daily driver. It comes in at a great price point for what it delivers, and features some higher end tech inside like kevlar and carbon fiber stringers. For me the highlights on the DOA are how much pop it has to offer, stemming from that positive camber profile, mid flex, and carbon stringers, as well as how fast the base is. I have been really impressed with the bases on Capita's 18/19 lineup. All in all the DOA is a solid all around snowboard that is versatile and capable regardless of where you end up on the mountain. The Capita Ultrafear snowboard is a solid all around freestyle snowboard for both jibbing and jumping. You'll find a flat to rocker profile and a medium soft flex in this one, I think this combination provides you with a ride that is fun and capable for jibbing and butters while still offering decent stability for jumping and cruising outside of the park. It also comes out of the factory with a structured, sintered base. This is actually a pretty big deal in my opinion and creates a ride that glides extremely well on all snow surfaces, and is able to accelerate quickly. Overall I think the Ultrafear is a beginner friendly snowboard that is still going to offer the performance that experienced park riders want and need. Hood, Oregon. We were out riding for an entire week and had some great, variable spring conditions. In the early mornings we had decently firm groomers for carving, with the snow getting progressively more and more slushy throughout the day making for some fun park laps. The Outsiders is a Freestyle board at heart but performs well around the entire mountain. It has a medium stiff flex that I would rate around 6/10 and is more of a jump board when it comes to park riding. You can still have a lot of fun on rails though, you just wont be able to get those exaggerated presses; you will be able to slide outside the bindings without the board flexing out on you thanks to that stiffer flex though. This board is lightweight and maneuverable, and thrives in the park and sending natural features. I was also very impressed with how much speed the sintered base offered on this slow, slushy snow. I rode more natural and freeride style terrain at Loveland and found that the Horrorscope did pretty well and could get around fine, but wasn't really comfortable at higher speeds. The heavier choppy snow was able to push the board around and flex the tips pretty easily. In the park the flat to rocker profile offered a comfortable feeling that locked into rail features well, and also provided a platform for easy presses. I also like the blunted tips, this allows you to ride a shorter snowboard for better maneuverability and still have the control and stability of a slightly larger board. Overall I think the Horrorscope can be a fun snowboard for any rider from a beginner to more advanced riders. It will be easy to control and maneuver and is also a fun and capable freestyle snowboard. We had some fun spring conditions to feel this board out on with plenty of laps through Park Lane. I found this board to be at home in the park and just generally a good board for riding with a freestyle mindset. It's flex is softer than I anticipated it would be and it does have some rocker in the tips, it's a very buttery and pressable snowboard. The profile is camber dominant with camber running between the feet going out 5cm past the insert packs; this gives the board a some nice response and a genuine camber feel despite having rocker in the tips. All in all this is a fun board that isn't too aggressive, I think anyone from beginner to advanced can enjoy it. This is a very lightweight snowboard but still packs in loads of performance featuring an ashwood topsheet, sintered and structured base, setback stance, taper, shifted camber, and medium flex. The Kazu will offer float in powder while still remaining very freestyle friendly, and also provide lots of stability for technical descents or other high impact scenarios. I really enjoyed how much energy the Kazu held and how much pop it has to offer as well.
