Seeing a Porsche pull the wheels up is not something we see a lot of, which is why Fred was so giddy about the car after every pass. While the wheelies are incredibly badass, we don’t can’t overlook how consistent this car is after so little track time (the guys over at AIM Performance are really onto something it seems). This Porsche marks a turning point for this event as 2021 is the first year where GTR World Cup, is no longer a GTR exclusive event! Enter the DCT class, which opens the lanes to a new demographic of racers to a well established event they’d likely be attending regardless, but this expansion has made room for extra excitement! Finding a FULL BLOWN drag car is something we would not expect to find at a half mile event. The typical Indy Airstrip Attack consists of sleek and aerodynamic cars that were purposefully built and intended to achieve high speeds. Seeing as this 56’ Chevy strays from the norm, we couldn’t help be skeptical of his 190mph+ goals from a car with a flat fascia and no hood! We were quickly impressed by this car before it even made a pass. After discovering the owner is a Drag Weeker (who built the car to compete in next years event) we realized we were going to see this car a lot, and it was going to be impressive each time! A closed down city street turned into drag strip for some of the WILDEST big tire cars in the midwest! Native midwestern racers and even some of Discovery Channels Street Outlaws made the drive to Hartshorne, Oklahoma for the H-Town Throwdown. A totally LEGAL street racing event, on a totally un-prepped, bare city street. Big tire cars mean SERIOUS power, but big power means a bigger fight for traction. Oddly enough we caught our buddy Ryan smack dab in the middle of the big tire class working through rounds with only small tires? Our first time attending the Flashlight Shootout proved to be a worthwhile experience as we crossed paths with a car we hadn’t seen in quite some time - The Texas Rattlesnake! This savage 3,000hp twin-turbo Chevy S-10 build is one hard to miss vehicle and one hard to beat competitor! Jumping into the lanes of Xtreme Raceway Park in Ferris, Texas, we caught Landon Hobbs making his first competitive passes in this originally no-prep built big tire machine. While the plate may suggest they prefer no-prep style racing, Landon and the Texas Rattlesnake crew don’t seem to have any aversion to competing in prepped event, especially when trying to tame 3,000hp for the first time. Team Boddie’s “No Excuses” race event in Sacramento, California was filled with some WILD cars! The pits were filled full of fresh builds of grudge racers, radial cars, and test & tune racers looking to get some track time and precious data early in the racing season. Unfortunately there was a nasty wreck but thanks to the wonders of proper safety equipment, the drive was able to walk away unscathed proving yet again the importance of it in the sport.
