It was hard to miss this Silverado in the pits at StreetCar Takeover - Atlanta, being a full size pickup with a bright green paint job. It's easy to overlook the autocross style aero on the car, when there are slicks and a Laguna style exhaust coming out of the bed of the truck. Saturn is not a name you hear much in the automotive world since they shut down years back, but even more rare is hearing about a street legal 500hp Saturn powered GoKart! Fortunately for us, we were able to have one of our first encounters with a DF Goblin kit car in person at Street Car Takeover in Atlanta, Georgia. Even more fortunately for us, we knew the owner as we’ve previously featured him on the channel before with his Saturn Ion Redline (and now you know why we bring up Saturn instead of the typical Cobalt platform for the DF Goblin application). That should also help identify why it’s no surprise to see this tiny 4 cylinder cranking out a familiar 500hp, however the catch here is that this kit car weighs just 1600lbs (that’s WITH the driver)! In addition to catching this zippy GoKart on it’s maiden voyage to the drag strip, we were able to sneak a ride in out on the highway (a very very very very windy ride). Atlanta Streets are always a full of surprises and eager racers ready to line up! Pairing up a 720hp NISMO GT-R against a 1,000hp TT Porsche for $500 was a shocking upset and starts this video off right. Additionally, this 1700hp TSM built Nissan GT-R was not afraid to go out for a spirited run against a liter-bike and make several shocking passes as he reels in a bike that most cars would struggle to keep up with. Drag Week 2018 EP.2 - REAL Racecars Ain’t Scared of Rain! Even in light of the approaching hurricane Florence, these dedicated racers find themselves traveling at a snail’s pace as they try to safely commute to the next track. While safety was a huge concern during the first drive, most of the racers were able to make it safely from Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia, all the way over to Darlington, South Carolina to begin day 2 of racing! Hot Rod’s “Drag Week” 2018 took over Darlington Dragway while the sun was out and the sky was dry as they squeezed in a full day of racing! While the road has already laid claim to a few racers, their cars, or broken parts, the spirit of Drag Week remains strong and un-phased as the racers and Hot Rod Magazine push forward into the oncoming onslaught of severe weather! The WORLD’s Most BRUTAL Street Car Challenge! Hot Rod’s “Drag Week” 2018 has OFFICIALLY launched and the competition has begun! With over 400 STREET CARS filling the pits of Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, GA, the tech lines have opened and testing lanes are full! Every year Hot Rod Magazine puts on the WORLD standard in STREET CAR tests, as they challenge any and all racer’s that believe they have a road worthy racecar! The insane popularity of this event only grows each year as pre-registration spots open up and sell out in under 10 MINUTES! These racer’s are only allowed to trailer their cars TO the event and from there they have to bring what they need to complete the 1,000+ EXHAUSTING miles. On top of the road trip, racers MUST make at least one pass at every track to stay in the competition, and at the end of the week their time slips are gathered, averaged, and from there each class winner is declared. It may sound simple, but every year only a fraction of the cars that enter…make it back to the the initial track to complete the punishing adventure! Atlanta never seems to have a shortage of fun stuff to do, and in this case it was one of the things we love to do most! Acuras, Mercedes Wagons, Mustangs and MORE came out to play during a visit to the city of Atlanta, Georgia. Heading out onto the highway late one night, these drivers were anxious to see how they stacked up against one another.
