Finding a FULL BLOWN drag car is something we would not expect to find at a half mile event. The typical Indy Airstrip Attack consists of sleek and aerodynamic cars that were purposefully built and intended to achieve high speeds. Seeing as this 56’ Chevy strays from the norm, we couldn’t help be skeptical of his 190mph+ goals from a car with a flat fascia and no hood! We were quickly impressed by this car before it even made a pass. After discovering the owner is a Drag Weeker (who built the car to compete in next years event) we realized we were going to see this car a lot, and it was going to be impressive each time! After loading up on some fresh parts, revised tune, and a good dyno session, this badass stick shift E46 BMW pulled off the trailer in the RACE1000 pits to lay down some POWER! Freshly paired with a new turbo and some new supporting accessories, this Donkey Tec tuned Turbo E46 showed up to take full advantage what of the RACE1000 1/2 Mile has to offer. Pairing nearly 1000hp with RWD in Europe is a tough combination when the tracks aren’t prepped and the streets are slick (granted they DO have the Autobahn), but this BMW wasn’t scared of the challenge as it made pull after pull while shooting for that 300km club mark! This 1989 Volkswagen can go 200mph?! In the middle of 1320Video’s tour of Germany, we found ourselves at the reason we crossed the pond - The RACE1000 1/2 Mile at Airport Magdeburg Cochstedt, aka Germany’s premier 1/2 mile event! We heard this is where European cars come to raise the bar and we were not at all let down! Starting with this 1300hp Volkswagen GTI, powered by a massive Turbo fused to a built 24v VR6 from a VW R32 (they even swapped 4motion drivetrain into it!). Denny Wimmer and his CRAZY mkii GTI really opened our eyes to the European car scene, giving us a taste of what else the RACE1000 had to offer. During the final day of 1320Video’s Rocky Mountain Race Week, the racers whom made it all the way thorough the tests and challenges of race week were ready to celebrate by turning the cars up! With the fear of not making it to the next race track gone, many of the racers decided to try their luck by shooting for their fasted pass of the week in an effort to put on a show as well as bring down their averages! Some racers made their best passes of the week, while some pushed too far ending them on the trailer sooner than intended, Out of the record 140+ cars that entered, a shocking 120 of the cars made it through the challenging week to completion, proving their cars worthy of being deemed a TRUE street car! I’ve been watching Sal and his MONSTER twin turbo Viper since he started racing it back in 2007! Thats right - over TEN years ago this beast was knocking out 7-second quarter mile passes like it was nothing. Fast forward to 2018 - Sal is running essentially the same setup, and now he’s setting RECORDS! 246mph in the half mile - are you kidding me?!
